Fig. 1. In 1979 Professor Theodore W. schultz of the University of
Chicago received the Nobel Prize in economics for his contributions to a
better understanding of agricultural and economic development. Research
by Professor Schultz demonstrated the high personal and social returns on
investment in the education and health of rural people and the importance of
providing farmers with new adn more productive inputs and technologies.
