Arugula Bolting Resistance Selection Project
Mario Morales and Jules Janick
In 1999 seedlines of arugula (check mario for source) were screened in
the greenhouse by exposing plants to continuous daylength. Selections
were made and seed was harvested from each plant, but seed production
was low and erratic. The same population was planted in the field and
further selections were made. These selections will be tested in 2001.
In February 2001 greenhouse screening under continuous daylength was
initiated from 4 lines. Line one was derived from an Italian seed source
(Cultivated Arugula). Data is being taken on date of flowering. Photographs
of bolting and leaf type are shown below. All photographs were taken on
03/19/2001.
The first potential release is now in field trials with a commercial
seed company. |
